SI – Virtual Twins of Human Organ Systems” in the Journal of Biomechanics (link).

This special issue aims to demonstrate the impact and opportunity of virtual twins to transform our basic understanding of the multiphysics behavior of organs, the impact of disease on an organ’s functional changes, and the efficacy of medical interventions. We welcome contributions covering theoretical, computational, and data-driven aspects, including but not limited to:

• Multidisciplinary approaches to creating virtual twin models
• Examples of successful model validation against experimental and/or clinical data
• Applications to diagnosis, prognosis, drug development, surgical planning, etc.
• Multiphysics, multimodal, multiscale approaches to virtual twins
• Studies using experiments and computation to better understand an organ system
• Collaborative projects combining biology, mechanics, medicine, and other disciplines
• Machine learning methods for verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification

When submitting your manuscript, please select the article type “VSI: Virtual Twins” from the drop-down list. And the deadline to submit the manuscript will be 31st December 2026.

All submissions will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Once your manuscript is accepted, it will go into production and will be simultaneously published in the current regular issue and pulled into the online Special Issue. For open access publication, an article processing charge (APC) of USD 3,510, excluding taxes, applies. Please check whether your institution has a publishing agreement that may cover all or part of this fee. Alternatively, authors may publish under the subscription model at no charge.
